We dreamt up a European style kitchen, but with modern sensibilities. This was a true gut renovation as the husband is an excellent cook and the old layout was not conducive for cooking large family meals and entertaining. On top of wanting to incorporate European details such as a white plaster stove hood and unlacquered brass plumbing fixtures, we opted to replace with travertine tile in a herringbone pattern. The homeowners wanted a 10 foot long island as the family loves to gather there for meals and get togethers. We wanted the table to be extremely special, so we made the center island out of white cerused oak with brass capped feet.
